Nike’s new batch of 3D-printed shoes—two pairs designed by Chinese designers

Nike launched a 3D printing project called “Air Works” this year, inviting eight designers from around the world to create designs.

The third shoe is called the Nike Air Max Link, designed by Beijing-based independent designer Marc Su (Su Qingsen).

This shoe has several notable features:

First, the air cushion position has changed. The classic Air Max air cushion is typically in the heel, but this shoe moves it to two air cushions in the forefoot.

Second, the heel has protruding “connection studs,” inspired by traditional Chinese mortise-and-tenon joinery. Simply put, like woodworking joints, wearers can 3D print their own accessories and attach them to the heel for personalized combinations.

Third, in terms of appearance, it’s a slip-on shoe that doesn’t require laces. The overall color is white, with green air cushions, a woven texture on the upper, and a raised Nike Swoosh logo on the side.

This shoe will not be sold publicly—only a friends-and-family limited edition will be made, given to the designer’s friends and family. It is expected to be exhibited alongside other Air Works 3D-printed shoes at the Air Max Day event on March 26, 2027.

It’s worth noting that another designer from Shanghai, Jose Wong (Wang Zheng), designed the sixth pair, which will be released in December. All shoes are ultimately produced in collaboration with 3D printing company Zellerfeld.
